With the imminent arrival of our latest container of antiques from Italy, I thought I would share some highlights of our most recent buying trips and a sneak peek of some of our favorite finds arriving soon.
One of our regular destinations on buying trips is the Piemonte region of Italy. There are many things I love about Piemonte – truffles, excellent wine and grappa, beautiful towns like Alba and Cuneo – but the weather is not my favorite thing. It reminds me of Oregon. It is rainy, foggy, snowy and often dreary. However, on our recent trip, we were treated to a couple crisp, clear days and stunning views of the surrounding snow-covered peaks. Of course, it rained, too!
We were also delighted to discover a new town to stay in – Cherasco. It is a beautiful town with gorgeous architecture, friendly people and it happens to be a foodie paradise!
We were lucky to be there during a festival celebrating the “chiocciola” or snail. Every restaurant in town offered special dishes featuring snails. Honestly, snails are not my thing, but Massimo loved it. His favorite dish was spaghetti alla carbonara with snails. I fell in love with the traditional egg noodle from Piemonte called “tajarin” in a classic butter and sage sauce.
I am fascinated by the incredible architecture in Piemonte. The grand, heavy doors are fun to photograph.
Incredible wine shops abound, like this one in Alba.
We packed the car with wine and grappa! Of course, we couldn’t leave without buying some black truffles and local cheeses.
Of course, we did manage to get some work done! Here are few of our favorite finds that will be arriving at our warehouse in April.
