AGE: Early 20th century
DIMENSIONS: 5” x 5” x 6 ¼” h
MATERIALS: Glazed ceramic
CONDITION: Very good, minor chips and old repair to foot
This small vintage Italian glazed ceramic piece was hand sculpted and hand painted with an abundance of classical details – four winged caryatids support the vessel, which is adorned with four shells; inside the basin is a delicately painted scene of a cherub holding a bird; and, the entire piece sits on paw feet. The shape of this sculpture seems to have been inspired by antique inkwells.
Overall it is in very good condition with a few chips on the edges of the piece, and one old repair to a foot (see photos). No maker’s mark.
