Description

Original signed oil painting on canvas board by well-listed Florentine painter, Rodolfo Marma (1923-1998) depicting the narrow Via dei Coverelli near the Basilica Santo Spirito in Florence.

Rodolfo Marma was born in Florence and graduated from l'Accademia di Belle Arti there in 1948, studying under Ugo Capocchini and Emanuele Cavalli. He lived and worked in New York City from 1956 to 1958 where he often returned during his lifetime. His works are found in museums and private collections both in Europe and the United States.

Marma’s love of his hometown is evidenced in his work, often depicting everyday life in Florence – market scenes, storefronts, and the typical narrow streets like this painting. Also frequently depicted in Marma’s paintings are nuns in their habits with large white headpieces, as also seen in this painting. Whimsical and colorful, this painting will add touch of Florentine character to any space.
