AGE: 19th century
DIMENSIONS: 12.5” diameter x 24” h
MATERIALS: Iron, glass, plexiglas
CONDITION: Very good; wear consistent with age and use; minor damage to pierced edges; some loss of metal leaves at bases; finials missing
Pair of iron processional lanterns, each with six sides of glass protected by iron cages, a working door for access to the single candleholder, pierced detail around the six edges, and handmade leaves adorning both the top and base.
When we found these lanterns in Italy they were a dusty, brown color and we were delighted when we removed that layer of dirt to find this lovely aged gold surface.
We have placed these lanterns on Plexiglas bases, but they are not permanently attached so as to leave open the possibility of wiring them for electricity or placing on them traditional wooden poles for display.
