Beautifully carved and gilded wood 18th century small altar card frame or “cantagloria” from Tuscany that has been outfitted with a mirror. Highly detailed carved flowers surround the frame while a prominent eagle with wings spread is the centerpiece. Gilding has developed a somewhat darkened patina with time.
Altar cards were placed on the altar only during Mass and they framed the written prayers that the priest would have recited during the Mass.
