Antique 19th century Italian Glass Top Cabinet

AGE: 19th century
DIMENSIONS: 54 ½” wide x 24” deep x 99” h
MATERIALS: Walnut, glass, Carrara marble
CONDITION: Very good

A finely crafted two-piece 19th century Italian cabinet, or “vetrina,” featuring a beautiful mix of light and dark walnut wood and figural walnut veneers.  The arched crown has a carved shield with two lions at the center and ball finials at the corners.  The edges of this tall cabinet are adorned with carved acanthus leaf corbels.  The Carrara marble top adds a luxurious touch.  Two fixed scalloped shelves behind two locking wavy glass doors provide display space while the locking lower cabinet is divided by one shelf.  Two drawers offer storage space for small items.  The upper shelves are 9.5” deep, while the lower cabinet shelf is 18.5” deep.

This piece is in very good condition and shows wear consistent with age and use; there is a cross-wise crack in the marble top; evidence of wormwood activity (inactive now); it appears that a decorative trim is missing from the lower cabinet door panels.
