Louis Philippe period Italian Secretaire

CONDITION: Very good

In Italy, secretary desks always have “segreti” or secrets.  This one is no exception as the maker cleverly hid a “secret” drawer in the crown of this elegant secretaire. Striking bookmatched walnut burlwood is featured on the entire piece.  Behind the drop-down desk are 7 poplar wood desk drawers with fine lines of inlaid ebonized wood.  When you open the desk, you are treated to the heady scent of the new Florentine leather desk surface.  Three lockable drawers below the drop-down desk complete the ample storage of this piece.  The original Carrara marble top has a simple bull-nose edge.

This classic Louis Philippe secretaire would be perfect in an elegant living room where you might need an occasional work surface.  It is also petite enough for a bedroom and would be the perfect space for thoughtful journal entries.

The front of the desk has an old repaired crack but it does not detract for the overall very good condition of this piece.
