Pair Italian Neoclassical Style Church Candlesticks

ORIGIN: Sicily, Italy
AGE: 19th century
DIMENSIONS: 8” diameter x 28 ½” h
CONDITION: Very good; wear to paint; minor chips; darkening of patina on one foot; one is ever-so-slightly warped to one side

Pair of large neoclassical style carved wood church candlesticks from Sicily decorated with silver leaf and painted white.  Both the paint and silver leaf show wear and time has created a beautiful patina.  Each are raised on a tripartite base with each foot having a Greek key motif; the urn-shaped center-section has carved foliage details; and the upper column and candle cup are fluted.

We purchased this beautiful pair in Palermo, Sicily where we were instantly enchanted by their patina and style, not to mention the gorgeous silver leaf.
